Traditional Thai massage compresses and stretches the body rather than using hand strokes. You remain fully clothed during the massage, usually wearing loose-fitting pyjama-style clothes* while the therapist applies a mixture of pressure and yoga-like stretching techniques to various parts of the body, loosening muscles and alleviating joint pain.
The massage therapist uses their fingers, thumbs, elbows, arms and feet on the body and muscles to create weight and pressure. The therapist may use Tiger Balm on some parts of the body or just on the back and shoulders.
Typically, the masseuse performs the massage on the floor, on a padded mat and uses various yoga techniques to stretch the body leaving it feeling relaxed and energised.
